Maxus T90 TOVs

RVC worked with National Highways to deliver a proof of concept project exploring the potential of fully electric pick up trucks within its TOV fleet.

Based on the fully electric Maxus T90 pickup, we converted a fleet of five vehicles into operational Traffic Officer Vehicles, combining the requirements of a frontline response vehicle with the challenges presented by an entirely electric base platform.

Each vehicle was equipped with a comprehensive emergency warning package, communications and telematics equipment, CCTV, auxiliary power and a Code 3 matrix message board to support roadside operations.

A key part of the conversion was ensuring the vehicle remained practical for day-to-day operational use. RVC designed and manufactured a bespoke slide-out load carrier system for the pickup bed, housed beneath a hard top and giving Traffic Officers easy access to the equipment carried on board. A powered tailgate lifting system was also incorporated to further improve usability.

The electrical installation was supported by a dedicated 230Ah lithium auxiliary battery and DC-DC charging system, allowing the specialist equipment fitted during the conversion to operate independently of the vehicle's primary traction battery.

The project provided National Highways with a real-world opportunity to evaluate a fully electric pickup in the Traffic Officer role and formed part of its wider journey towards lower-emission fleet operations.
